NORAD Plans Laser Warning System for Washington, DC ADIZ

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is in the process of implementing a Visual Warning System (VWS) to alert pilots who violate the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) over Washington, DC.  VWS will be a ground-based system that will use alternating low-power green and red lasers to alert pilots that they are flying without approval in the ADIZ.

GWBAA President Bob Blouin attended a briefing and took part in a flight demonstration of VWS on April 13, 2005.  At the briefing, NORAD made the following draft documents and other information publicly available about VWS:
